Ultimate Grad props guide

  1. Your Apparel

Let’s start with the basics- what you’re wearing! For Graduation Portraits, you certainly want a sash or a stole, your grad cap, and your grad gown.

Outfits are totally up to you, but I always recommend wearing neutral, solid colors for your photos. If you are doing a couple of outfits, you may want to do a more casual look such as jeans, boots, and a top (or even a Football jersey if you’re feeling sporty), and then a more dressy look such as a white or black dress and heels/wedges! If you are a nurse or an athlete wearing your scrubs or uniform in some of your photos is also a great way to capture your college experience!  For group shoots, a mix of white & denim is always a fun look!

*please keep in mind the time frame for outfit changes

Don't forget to bring your cap and gown! :)

2. Decorating your Cap

I highly suggest decorating your cap as the design can really bring out your personality and remember your time in school!

Please keep in mind you will have to move your tassel from one side to another! Some designs can prevent this.

3. Party Props

A bottle of Champagne is a popular grad photo prop and very fun to do! These types of photos add another dimension and if you’ve never done action shots, they’re a blast- literally!

I ask if you’re wanting to do the champagne photos, please bring two bottles because if you’re never popped a bottle of Champagne before, it can be tricky. Always good to have a backup and they have definitely came in handy!

4. Props that represent you!

Whatever you feel, most represents you or your time at college, I highly recommend bringing these as props!

This can either be a stethoscope for a medical major, a flag representing your roots, or something you couldn’t live without in your time at school!

5. Confetti!

Confetti is another great thing that can add dimension to your photos!

You can choose between confetti colors or ones that sparkle in the sun (my personal favorite). Please be sure to get the biodegradable confetti so we can keep our environment beautiful. :)

5. Your loved ones

Taking graduation pictures with your parents, family, and friends is a great idea. Alongside with your individual portraits, these types of photos make wonderful gifts for your family members!

Furry friends are also welcome!
